About the Grex Lynx Shell

The lynx shell is based on the lynx web-browser. It provides a very easy-to-use interface to most of the things you can do on Grex. It is in most ways the most beginner-friendly interface to Grex, but it is important that you have your terminal type set correctly with the lynx shell. If you say your computer emulates a vt100, and it doesn't, then nothing will work right.

For example, here is the lynx "Grex Activitives" menu:

                                GREX ACTIVITIES

There are many things you can do on Grex. Here is a list of things you
   can try out.
     * Electronic Computer conferencing using "PicoSpan". Grex was first
       established primarily for this purpose.
     * Converse with other users on Grex, or converse with a helper.
     * Electronic Mail or "email" is available so you can send or receive
private messages to Grex users, or anywhere on the Internet.
     * Information about Grex
     * If you don't know what Netiquette is, you'd better find out!
     * Access to Usenet, a world-wide public message exchanging system.
     * Internet Services such as telnet, FTP, gopher, and the World Wide
Web are also available, but membership is required.
     * There is a collection of On-line games, including NetHack.
     * Utilities are available to perform a myriad of small useful jobs.
     * Access to a Unix shell, with all standard commands, including full
access to the C compiler, assembler, and other development tools.
     * You can also run a single Unix command from here.
     * Want to reward someone on Grex? Try sending them mathom.
     * You can try our easy-to-use menu shell.
You navigate in lynx by using the up- and down-arrows to select the link you want to follow, and then using the right-arrow key to follow it.

You can use your web browser to tour the lynx shell menus, but be forewarned--since you aren't logged into Grex, many of the commands will not work. Create an account and log on to really be able to use stuff.
