About Grex Passwords
Grex is uncommonly strict about accepting only secure passwords.
Important considerations on picking a secret password:
-
Pick a secure password. Your password should not appear in any list of
words (this includes dictionaries, both English and foreign-language, as
well as lists of names, cities, etc.). Your password also should not be
a word that someone could discover by knowing other things about you --
for that reason, your spouse's name, your pet's name, and your license-plate
number are all bad passwords. For a password to be acceptable on Grex,
it must be a made-up words, with
both upper- and lower- case letters, as well as punctuation and digits.
-
If you forget your password, you won't be able to use your account anymore.
They are much easier to forget than you would expect.
We get three or four requests to reset forgotten passwords every day.
Write down your password and login-id somewhere safe.
A good place to
write them is on a scrap of paper you keep in your wallet or purse.
-
If you forget your password, it may not be possible to get it reset. To
improve the chances that we can help you in that case, include a phone number
or alternate email address in the "personal information" part of the form.
Unless we have a way to be positive that we are communicating
with the person who originally created the account, we will not reset
passwords.
-
Don't use the same password on different computers. Grex's password security
is very good, but if you use the same password on different systems, your
account is only as secure as the weakest of the systems you use it on.
-
Don't share your password with anyone -- not even your closest friends or
family members. If they want to use Grex, encourage them to get their
own accounts!
-
Treat your password like you would a bankcard PIN.
Armed with your password and login-id,
someone else can enter bbs responses and send e-mail in your name,
as well as read your personal email.
If you think your password might have been compromised, change it immediately
and tell the system staff.
For security reasons, your browser will not display your password as you
type it.
To make sure that you typed it correctly, we will ask you to enter it twice.
